CANADA'S BEST PETFOOD SINCE 1985

As a family-owned petfood producer, Champion understands the contribution pets make to enriching our family lives. Indeed, for many people dogs and cats have become trusted confidants, steadfast and irrepressible in their ability to lift the human spirit.

And as people become ever more concerned about the origin and safety of their own foods, they are understandably more selective when choosing the appropriate diet for their cats and dogs.

ACANA's “Eat well - Live Long” philosophy is a dedicated program of science-based petfood formulation, government-certified ingredient quality assurance and total food safety.  This commitment assures each ACANA diet is produced to meet and exceed the standard of “Canada's highest quality petfood”.

Dogs and cats are best fed as carnivores, which is why ACANA diets are meat concentrated, boasting a chicken or lamb inclusion rate between 40% and 60 percent -- one of the highest rates in the petfood industry.  Whether hormone-free chicken or lamb, or wild-caught salmon, all meat ingredients are from federally-inspected meats that are declared fit for human consumption. These superior ingredients provide total food safety, outstanding palatability, and optimum nutritional value and digestibility.

ACANA is also defined by what it is not. ACANA does not contain artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or trend ingredients like blueberries or peas that appeal to people rather than pets. And because dogs and cats cannot easily digest vegetable proteins or high-starch foods, all ACANA diets are low-starch and wheat-and-gluten-free. True to our formulation philosophy, we believe that vegetable-based proteins do not belong in premium petfoods – and we refuse to compromise these values.

Distinct from the competition, Champion operates a single facility in Canada where we produce extruded dog and cat foods only – no fish, hamster or bird food. It's not that these other products aren't worthy pursuits, but rather that a narrow, well-defined focus provides us the opportunity to specialize.  We produce smaller batches from fresh, locally-grown, human-grade ingredients in our state-of-the-art factory with such industry-leading production systems as high-technology extrusion, vertical drying, and vacuum-infusion fat coating – production systems that put us at the forefront of our industry.

The result? ACANA is sold in thousands of shops across four continents and in over 40 countries – making ACANA the best selling premium Canadian petfood worldwide. It is our international success that, we believe, reflects our commitment to the principles of science-based formulations, superior ingredient quality, and a genuine respect for pets.
