Human Resource Generalist


Under the guidance and direction of the Human Resource Manager, the HR Generalist is responsible for planning, implementing and developing training, recruiting, onboarding, and employee orientation. The HR Generalist is a member of the Employee Services Team, which consists of Human Resources, Payroll/Benefits, Training, Document Control, Safety, and IT. This position will also support multiple functional areas of Human Resources and company initiatives to achieve goals and objectives set by our BAFRINO Mission and the Champion Petfoods Vision: To Be Trusted By Pet Lovers Everywhere.

This position reports to the Human Resource Manager and will act as the primary HR point of contact in the manager’s absence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of recruitment and on-boarding of all new employees, including correspondence, testing, assessment centers, offer letters, reference checks, and pre-employment screenings.
  • Assist managers with recruitment and interview processes, including phone screen, posting job ads, scheduling applicants for testing, interviewing and Assessment Centers, sending application information, and gathering feedback documentation as necessary.
  • Serve as HR liaison on the production floor, requiring frequent presence on the floor and in break rooms to interact with employees.
  • Facilitate and conduct Assessment Centers as hiring needs dictate.
  • Schedule and conduct new employee orientation activities, including meeting arrangements and compilation of new hire paperwork.
  • Input new employee information into the ADP HR Information System.
  • Coordinate and oversee the DogStar kitchen training and training matrix, including:
    • Maintain general understanding of all processes.
    • Notify managers/employees of upcoming mandatory and requested training.
    • Schedule trainers, rooms/sites, materials, etc. for training.
    • Update training matrix on a continual basis to ensure it is audit-ready.
    • Represent and assist with audits requiring training verification and procedures.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and assist with planning company events.
  • Assist with coordinating employee meetings and group events, assist with preparing agenda and reserving and preparing facilities for events and training sessions.
  • Oversee the receptionist position and be a resource for training, customer service issues.
  • Update the Communication TV (CTV) on a weekly basis.

Education and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and four to seven years of HR generalist experience, a Master’s degree in HR Management and two years of HR generalist experience, or five years of HR Generalist experience and S/PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to Human Resources.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in a team environment and individually.
  • Must possess highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills necessary to work effectively with management and co-workers.
  • Possess a high degree of accuracy and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse workforce.
  • Ability to take initiative to complete projects, tasks and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to empathize and defuse sensitive or contentious employee issues.
  • Travel and/or extended hours of work may be required.
  • Contemporary open design office work space.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Lifting or moving up to 25 lbs may be required.
