FRESH REGIONAL INGREDIENTS 

Formulated to closely match the natural diet, ORIJEN’s focus is upon the diversity of world-class ingredients fished or raised within our region and delivered to our factory FRESH—never-frozen and without preservatives—each day.

Slow cooked at low temperature (90c/195F) the same day they arrive, our fresh meats have a greater nutritional integrity than the previously frozen (raw) meats typically used in the pet food industry,  and provide the natural nourishment and flavor that dogs and cats instinctively crave.      

From grain-fed chicken, turkey and eggs and world-class freshwater fish—including lake whitefish, walleye, lake trout, fresh water cod and herring— the quality and variety of ORIJEN’s fresh ingredients is unequalled in any other dry pet food.

Processed under the Government of Canada’s highest food safety standards, ORIJEN meats are hormone and antibiotic free, and we’re proud to name our local suppliers whose icons are known and trusted by in Canadian households.

 

      

FRESH ALBERTA CHICKEN

Fresh chicken is a feature ingredient in ORIJEN diets. A superior source of high quality protein, our plump prairie chickens are grain-fed (no animal by-products) and are raised hormone and antibiotic free.

Raised “free-range” inside controlled barns, our chicken meat is federally inspected, certified as fit-for-human-consumption and arrives at our factory FRESH each day—never frozen or dried.

WORLD-CLASS FRESH FISH— LOW IN MERCURY AND FREE OF  ETHOXYQUIN.

Canada’s pristine northern lakes hold an abundance of top-quality fish, and while each is distinct, they all have two things in common: world-class quality and world-class taste. 

Fresh northern lake whitefish, walleye, lake trout, lake herring and freshwater cod are all indigenous to Canada and provide an excellent source of fresh fish protein, fresh essential oils, as well as selenium and B vitamins.

Caught wild from the cold, clean lakes of northern Alberta and Saskatchewan using sustainable harvesting practices, our fish are government -certified as human grade and delivered to our door FRESH (never frozen and without preservatives).

As key ingredients in all ORIJEN diets, our fresh fish provide premium quality unrendered proteins and a perfectly rich source of fresh marine source fatty acids (DHA, EPA) to promote peak vitality and physical conditioning.

 

WHOLE EGGS, FARM-FRESH

As one of Nature’s most perfect foods, fresh eggs are an excellent source of highly palatable, easily-digested proteins with a naturally occurring complex amino acid combination that’s perfectly suited to cats and dogs.

As one of few foods that naturally contain vitamin D (which enhances the work of calcium in keeping bones healthy and strong), whole eggs are rich in lutein and zeaxanthin—important carotenoids that are much better absorbed from eggs than from plant sources like spinach and carrots.

Processed under Canada’s highest food safety standards, our whole eggs arrive FRESH from Alberta’s Egg Producers each day and are not frozen or dried.

 

TONIC HERBS AND BOTANICALS

The Alberta Natural Health Agricultural Network (ANHAN) represents natural health product growers and producers in Alberta.

ORIJEN contains herb formulas (groups of herbs) selected by certified holistic veterinarians to provide synergistic health effects.  These formulas serve as tonics and builders to strengthen organs, glands and tissues in specific parts of the body (like strengthening the heart, or aiding digestion), and they help the body eliminate toxins by stimulating physiological processes like the cleansing of the liver.

Psyllium and chicory root for example, are provided in combination to supply soluble fiber, soothe and nourish the digestive tract, and reduce insulin levels, while dandelion, fenugreek and licorice root provide protective antioxidants that defend and strengthen the liver and as tonics, provide a general stimulant to the system, especially to the urinary organs. 

Unlike “holistic” pet foods, ORIJEN botanicals included in guaranteed amounts.
